Introduction to Ableton Live

 
This short course will provide you with a solid introduction to this popular software package. Knowledgeable tutors will guide you through the creation of your own Ableton composition and familiarize you with key operational aspects of the program.

This course is focused on hands on software training and all students will have their own Ableton Live workstation.

Introduction To Production For Songwriters

 
This course is primarily aimed at songwriters working at home on computer-based recording systems, who are looking to improve the overall production quality of their recordings. Various techniques and strategies will be explored and some best-practice workflows studied. Students are able to bring in work to be critiqued.

DJ Course: A Beginner's Guide

 
This is a 24 hour short course that runs for three hours, two nights per week, for four weeks. Students learn beat mixing/juggling and scratching techniques, CD mixing, and event management. This course gives students a solid foundation in the art of the DJing.

Students have access to DJ booths, turntables, computers, CDJs, Serato Scratch Live and MIDI controllers.

Live Sound for Gigging Musicians

 
This short course will give participants a greater understanding of basic live sound theory and practical skills.

Many key topics relating to small PA setup and operation are covered in our well equipped auditorium.

Logic Studio Short Course

 
This short course covers many aspects of creating music and recording/editing MIDI music data and audio tracks in Apples Logic Pro.

The course begins with the fundamentals of digital audio/MIDI workstations and teaches ways to develop a creative process and how to make useful recordings using Logic.
This course will cover more advanced elements of creating and editing music, as well as exploring some effective workflows and some of the less-obvious but powerful features of Logic.

Classes will also include tips on good recording techniques and appropriate equipment selection.

Effective mixing techniques will show how to achieve better quality final product.

Pat Pattison: Lyric-writing Seminar

 
Pat is Professor of lyric writing at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts. He has a vast reservoir of knowledge and experience, a wonderful entertaining speaking style, and a self‑deprecating sense of humour that keeps his seminars entertaining. In this seminar, you will explore some of the challenges from Pat Pattison's new book in depth; 1. Object Writing, 2. Metaphor, and 3. Extending Metaphor. You'll learn to integrate Object Writing into your Songwriting; create powerful and effective metaphor, using straight-forward exercises you
can do on your own; extend and reverse metaphor, and finally, work with rhythm and rhyme, preparing your writing for its journey into song.

This seminar will open your mind and release your best ideas.

Participants will have an opportunity to receive constructive critiques of their songs and lyrics. The Saturday critique sessions will run in order of registration, so register early to help your chances! The Sunday critique sessions will be randomly selected.
