Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards 2011
MAINZ SIGNED UP AS 2011 VODAFONE NZ MUSIC AWARDS SPONSOR
The involvement of MAINZ in this year’s Vodafone NZ Music Awards is recognition that the industry is increasingly sees MAINZ as an important player in the New Zealand music industry.
Andy Dowding, producer of the awards show says; “MAINZ has been on board for the last two years and we’re really pleased to have them involved again in 2011. Aside from the sponsorship support, the team of professionals that help me put the show together love having MAINZ students involved. Their enthusiasm reminds us of why we got into this business in the first place and we have come to expect that MAINZ has them well prepared to work at this level. They have the right skills and attitudes, and are a pleasure to work with”
2011 students will have the opportunity to compose and record the theme and incidental music, work with the event producers or help out on various aspects of the show, including providing backstage hospitality for artists and presenters, assisting the live show stage management, sound and lighting and the outside broadcast for the television show.
“This involvement is invaluable,” says Lyon. “It creates wonderful opportunities for our students to work on the production of a major live event that included the complexities of managing sponsors, nominees, judges, finalists, artists, record companies and the media.”
“The Awards celebrate excellence in Kiwi music, which is what we’re about,” says MAINZ Dean Harry Lyon, “and now we’re starting to see ex-students feature as nominees and winners of awards. For example, in 2009, of the 30 nominees for Album of the Year, seven had a MAINZ connection. Last year ex-students were prominent with Gin Wigmore winning four Tuis, electro-pop duo Kids of 88 took Best Single, and The Checks Best Rock Album. Both bands have members that came to MAINZ. Nothing pleases us more than to see ex-students achieving at the highest level and having that recognised at the Music Awards is incredibly satisfying for all our staff.”
MAINZ has naming rights to the MAINZ Engineer of the Year and the MAINZ Producer of the Year awards. Further details about the awards including the finalists announcement, will be made later in the year.
